x marks a spot
San Francisco iteration of the Chain Letter 2011 project
AUGUST 6 -
SEPTEMBER 10, 2011
Opening reception: Saturday, August 6, from 6 to 8 pm
N O M A gallery projects present x marks a spot, the San Francisco iteration of the Chain Letter 2011 project,. Taking its title and cue from the BBC quiz game "X Marks the Spot" the show will consist of documentation, objects and/or ephemera that pertain to the intersection of two or more places that have or had an intrinsic role within the participating artists’ practices. The exhibition will happen on one of N O M A Gallery's window sills where envelopes containing the ephemera will be available to be examined by viewers.
Chain Letter is a global group exhibition wherein 10 "admirable" artists were invited to participate. Each artist then invited 10 artists that they admire. Those 10 invited 10 more and so on. This cycle continued for 30 days, resulting in an exponentially massive artist-curated group show based entirely on admiration. After the 30 days Chain Letter went live in July of 2011. Likewise, facilitators from around the globe were invited to do the same.
