N O M A Gallery is pleased to present U n   r    a  v     e  li n       g_____ Tape, a group show examining the use of magnetic tape as material.  The show includes new works by Bonnie Banks, Aaron Finnis, and Jacqueline Gordon.  It also features sound installations by the writer duo Kieran Daly and Isaac Linder and the San Francisco Tape Music Collective.

As tape enters the pantheon of analogue fetishization, this show looks at it as a material utilized in the making of art just as any other.  The works run the gamut of the obvious use of tape as the carrier of sound information to it being a substitute for pencil, pen or thread or it becoming a source of annoyance based on its technological shortcomings.

A former avid collector of tapes, Bonnie Banks will be making a site specific installation that addresses his frustrations over the years with the constant breaking down of tapes.

Aaron Finnis utilizes tape to make minimalist inspired drawings and sculptures of very baroque content: 80s guitar rock.

Jacqueline Gordon will be showing a zentai mask made of crocheted tape that highlights the parallels between this current fetish practice and armor wear, as well as its simultaneous aesthetic possibilities engaging a representation of private and public persona.

Kieran Daly and Isaac Linder will be presenting the second in a series of 'co-authored' cassette tapes focusing on the network of effects (or affects) and apparatuses that are employed within the production of a cassette tape itself, as well as notions of paratexts—prefaces, mise en scéne, indices, colophons, errata. In addition to the cassette there will be a playlist and a collaboratively compiled text culled straight from a Google Books Preview of an English translation of Bernard Stiegler's Technics and Time 2: Disorientation.

The San Francisco Tape Music Collective presents a multi-speaker surround installation highlighting works from their previous Tape Music Festivals.

In tandem with the show the videoh0le project space will be featuring works by various artists that utilized as source material for these pieces, analogue electronic signals. Duncan Malashock employs oscilloscopes to generate the imagery in these works. Alivia Zivich is constructed by using televisions so their photon tubes fire on the x-y axis in reaction to sound input. Woody Vasulka and Brian O’Reilly show a collaboration piece developed while both artists were in residency at ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe Germany). The source materials for the piece were generated by Woody using a Rutt-Etra Scan Processor in the 1970's.
