N O M A Gallery is pleased to present "THE JOY OF C-PRINTS, in a sculptural presentation", new works by artist Mariah Robertson.

For her first solo show in San Francisco the artist will be showing a new body of work consisting of one of a kind photographs created through analogue dark room manipulation, composed in large oversized frames and site specific spatial arrangements. The exhibition will run from September 25th through October 30th.

In her photographic practice Mariah Robertson sardonically defies and subjugates the preconceived norms of "correct" photography. By means of frantic physical dark room experimentations, Mariah arrives at images that bring to mind tropes of landscape photograph gone colorfast awry. The subjects composing these images frequently consist of male body parts and urban vegetation functioning as subjectively staged set props. The results are not dissimilar to the effects of an afternoon summer drive observed through a compartmentalized system of color filters and architectural grids.

Mariah Robertson's work evokes a filmic rendition of phantasmagoric sculpture and fragmented paintings confounding and collapsing the photographic discipline. The element of chance is ever present in both the process and final results of her work.

Mariah Robertson received her MFA from Yale University. Her work has been exhibited extensively including solo exhibitions at the artist run gallery Guild and Greyshkul, Marvelli Gallery and Museum 52 in New York. As well, it has been included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY and the LA County Museum, CA. Currently it can be seen in the ongoing Greater New York show at PS1/MoMA. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
